Clinical data: Red black subcapsular liver nodule (0.8 cm) in a patient
with metastatic malignant melanoma.
Frozen section diagnosis: Hemangioma of the liver.
Pathology and comment: Hemangiomas of the liver show different sizes.
Large hemangiomas are easily diagnosed macroscopically. Cavernous hemangiomas
have a sponge like cut surface and may contain extensive fibrous areas. In our case
the small nodule was macroscopically very similar to a metastasis of the known
melanoma. Histology is simple.
