Clinical data: 63 year old man with colon carcinoma. Intraoperativelly
a firm nodule (1.2 cm in diameter) in the duodenal wall was seen. Metastasis?
Frozen section diagnosis: Heterotopic pancreas in the duodenal wall.
Pathology and comment: Heterotopic pancreatic tissue may contain ducts,
acini and/or islets. Involvement of all bowel layers is possible. Most frequently
it was found in the stomach and duodenal wall. However, other localizations
also occur (small and large intestine and their diverticula, mesentery, omentum,
gallbladder, spleen), Barbosa JJ et al: Pancreatic heterotopia. Surg Gynecol
