Case #3
Clinical data: 43 year old man with a tumor fixed to the deep connective
tissue of the second finger. Diameter 1.5 cm. Malignancy?
Frozen section diagnosis: Localized giant cell tumor of tendon sheath.
Pathology and comment: Macroscopically the tumor exhibits a characteristic
yellow-brown color and lobulated surface. Histologically multinucleated giant
cells, round or oval mononuclear cells and occasional xanthoma cells are seen.
Few mitotic figures should not interpret as signs of malignancy. Diagnosis is
mostly simple.
DD: different granulomatous inflammations, tendon sheath fibroma,
tendinous xanthoma.
