Clinical data: 43 year old man with a tumor fixed to the deep connective tissue of the second finger. Diameter 1.5 cm. Malignancy?

Frozen section diagnosis: Localized giant cell tumor of tendon sheath.

Pathology and comment: Macroscopically the tumor exhibits a characteristic yellow-brown color and lobulated surface. Histologically multinucleated giant cells, round or oval mononuclear cells and occasional xanthoma cells are seen. Few mitotic figures should not interpret as signs of malignancy. Diagnosis is mostly simple.
DD: different granulomatous inflammations, tendon sheath fibroma, tendinous xanthoma.
