Comment: Metanephric adenoma is an uncommon neoplasm of the kidney with a female preponderance. In some cases an association with polycythemia vera is described. Macroscopically the tumor is well demarcated, solid and yellow-gray. No capsule is to see. Histologically the tumor consists of small uniform glandular-tubular structures with small tumor cells. The stroma may be hyalinized or edematous. Mitoses are absent or very rare. The tumor must be differentiated from the papillary renal cell carcinoma which is diffusely positive with EMA and CK7 in the immunohistochemistry.
